Marianne Turner Memorial Scholarship 2017 Recipient
Emily is a 17-year-old soprano who resides in Courtice. While in her final year at O’Neill CVI, Oshawa, she participated in the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and has been studying with Dr. Robert Loewen. She also participated in the NATS Intern Program in June, held at the University of Toronto, and was a sponsored singer in the Simcoe Street United Church Choir.
This year she was also awarded the Intermediate Voice Award at the Oshawa Whitby Kiwanis Music Festival, the Best in Voice Award at the Pickering Rotary Music Festival, the Senior Outstanding Performance Award for voice at the ORMTA Toronto branch, and Third Place at the OMFA Provincials. In addition, Emily was a First Place Winner with the American Protégé Competition, and as such she will be performing in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in New York City later this year.
She plans to attend the University of Toronto in the fall for classical voice performance, in the studio of Lorna MacDonald.
